We are back!

HollyShorts returns with the February installment of our monthly screening series this Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Echo Park Film Center!

Get ready for free drinks, a raffle,and Q&A’s with the filmmakers.

The short with the most audience votes gets an automatic entry into the 6th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival taking place in August.

Svetlana and Ivanka

On their quest to fulfill their dreams of riches, glamour and Monte Carlo, Svetlana and Ivanka resort to some unique antics to woo their Texas Tycoon. A tale of poolside, pickles, and social ineptness, ‘Svetlana and Ivanka,’ is a (not so) sweet slice of comedy satire. In the vein of Absolutely Fabulous and Kath and Kim, ‘Svetlana and Ivanka’ is a hilarious send up of the ultimate gold-diggers in all their grotesque glory.

This gripping narrative told entirely in peformance poetry and gaelic verse by Vietnam Veteran Jason Wittman, taps deep into the psyche of a man in the extremest of human conditions. Through hardline images and breath taking perfromace “Soldier” is a harsh and socially relevant awakening ab out the grim realities of loss and war.

Skylight Directed by Tony West
A mock documentary about the ecological plight of penguins in the Antarctic, possibly foretelling cataclysmic results for the rest of the world.

Pissing Vocal Gold

Dick Romans (Rick Gomez) is a Hollywood voice over artist who’s made a fortune speaking other people’s words. But when he goes off script, his mouth always gets him into trouble. Now, with his personal life a flaming wreck and his career circling the bowl, can Dick find the mojo to face a live mic without cracking up?

King of the Ring

Hollywood, CA January 6, 2010 – On the heels of the most successful HollyShorts Film Festival (www.hollyshorts.com) to date which featured participation from such stars and filmmakers as Demi Moore, Kirsten Dunst, Darren Lew, Eli Roth, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Joel Moore, and Tom Everett Scott, the organizers of the event announce today the official call for entries for the 6th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival (HSFF).

Ranked by Moviemaker Magazine as “one of the top film festivals worth the entry fee,” HollyShorts will take place August 5-12, 2010 in Hollywood and feature a marquee opening night world premiere event, short film and feature film screenings as well as industry panels and exclusive receptions and parties. The announcement was made today by festival directors Daniel Sol and Theo Dumont.

Submissions can now be completed directly online by visiting www.hollyshorts.com or by submitting on Withoutabox directly at www.withoutabox.com/login/4655.

Submissions must be 30 minutes or less. Categories include Live Action, Animation, Documentary, Student, Webisode and Music Video. HollyShorts also has a discounted category for student projects. Deadlines to submit U.S. and International short films for the 2010 HollyShorts Film Festival are:

• February 19, 2010 – Early Submission deadline
• April 16, 2010 – Official deadline
• May 14, 2010 – Late deadline

Completed U.S. and international short films may be submitted and must arrive in office by February 19 for early consideration and a reduced submission fee. Complete information and eligibility requirements are available on HollyShorts.com.

Marketing
To promote this year’s HollyShorts Call For Entries, the organizers are initiating the following initiatives: HollyShorts page videos and clips on Openfilm.com; HollyShorts banner placement on leading film industry sites such as Haydenfilms.com and Moving Pictures.com; Submission discounts for participants at upcoming HollyShorts monthly screening series at the Echo Park Film Center.

The 5th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival took place August 6-13 at the DGA and Laemmle’s Sunset 5 Theatre in Hollywood with top honors of Best Short Film going to “La Petite Lilia,” Directed by Reda Mustafa. Mustafa took home a prize package from Clifton Production Services which included a RED ONE digital cinema package valued up to $5,000.00, while Johnny Gill took home a $10,000 cash prize for the Haydenfilms Online Film Festival contest for his short film “My Turtle’s Name is Dudley.”

Hollywood, CA—The 5th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival will celebrate it’s closing night on Thursday, August 13 with a special screening at the Laemmle Sunset 5 Theatre in Hollywood.

The event will feature a showcase of short films including:

 “These Vagabond Shoes” directed by Scarlett Johansson (Vicky Christina Barcelona) starring Kevin Bacon

 ”Sparks” directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt ((500) Days of Summer) starring Eric Stolz and Carla Gugino

 “The Monday Before Thanksgiving” directed by Courteney Cox (Scream) starring Laura Dern, Courteney Cox, and Rosemary Harris

 “The Pity Card” directed by Bob Odenkirk (HBO’s David’s Situation, SNL) starring Simon Helberg, Derek Waters, Bill Hader, and Zach Galifianakis

The HollyShorts Closing Night celebration marks the Hollywood Premiere of “Poolside,” a short film directed and produced by Kyle Howard (My Boys, Orange County) starring Beau Garrett, Michael Hitchcock, Jordan Masterson, and Tommy Savas.

The evening will also include Academy Award winner, Chris McQuarrie’s feature film “Way of the Gun” starring Benicio Del Torro, Ryan Phillipe, and James Caan.
